Despite claiming not to be good at lying, Andrew Garfield managed to keep his appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home a secret.
Previously, Garfield used to get asked by reporters and fans about the possibility of him appearing in No Way Home, but the Los Angeles-born actor steadfastly replied that he had no part in the film.
Emma Stone, his former girlfriend and co-star in The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, also asked Garfield the same question.
“Emma kept on texting me, and she was like, ‘Are you in this new Spider-Man film?’” the handsome actor revealed on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.
“And, I was like, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about,’” he added.
After Stone watched No Way Home, Garfield said that she was upset with him.
“Then, she saw it, and she was like, ‘You’re a jerk.’ I didn’t want to tell anyone. I took it super seriously. I told no one,” said Garfield, as reported by Insider on Tuesday (1/18/2022).
The actor, who won a Golden Globe for his role as Jonathan Larson in Tick, Tick… Boom!, also said lying to reporters and fans over the past few months was worth it, even though doing so was rather stressful.
“It was stressful, I’m not gonna lie. I was happy to do it, but it was a lot of work on everyone’s part,” he uttered. “It obviously gave people a big thrill in the theater, and what more do you want from a theater experience than a thrill?”
